How the math works
weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weights)
Each score contributes in proportion to its weight. Dividing by the weight entered also makes partial-course calculations useful before every category is graded.
Worked example
Combining four differently weighted categories
Homework at 92% worth 25%, quizzes at 84% worth 20%, a 78% midterm worth 25%, and an 88% final worth 30% produce 85.7 weighted course points and a final grade of 85.7%.

Frequently asked questions
Do the weights need to total 100%?
Not while a course is in progress. If they total less than 100%, PassPlan normalizes the result across the work entered and shows the missing weight. A final course grade should use all categories totaling 100%.
Can I enter individual assignments instead of categories?
Yes, as long as each assignment has its true share of the course grade. If your syllabus weights categories, it is usually easier to enter the category averages.
Why might my learning portal show a different grade?
Portals may drop scores, apply category rules, count ungraded work as zero, or use a different letter-grade scale. Match the rules in your syllabus before treating the result as official.
