  3. 3Use the live result as your exam target, then copy it into your study plan.

Formula

How the math works

required final = [target − current × (1 − final weight)] ÷ final weight

The formula keeps the portion of your grade already earned, then calculates what the final exam must contribute to close the gap to your target.

Worked example

From 82% to an 85% course grade

If your current grade is 82% and the final is worth 30%, your existing work contributes 57.4 course points. Reaching 85% needs 27.6 more points. Dividing by the 30% final weight gives a required exam score of 92%.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

What if the result is over 100%?

Your target is mathematically out of reach under the numbers entered. You can try a lower target or check whether extra credit changes the grading structure.

Why does the calculator show 0% needed?

Your current weighted grade already contributes enough course points to meet the target even if the final contributes zero. Your school may still require you to take the exam.

Does this calculator account for curved grades?

No. It uses the exact weights and percentages you enter. A curve, dropped score, or category rule should be reflected in the current grade supplied by your course system.
