How to use it
From syllabus to answer
- 1Add each completed assignment, its score, and its course weight.
- 2Enter your desired final grade and the total weight of all remaining work.
- 3Check that completed weight plus remaining weight equals 100%, then use the required average as your target.
Formula
How the math works
required average = (target grade − earned contribution) ÷ remaining weight
Completed scores are weighted into earned course points. The unfinished portion must supply the difference between those points and your final target.
Worked example
Aiming for 85% with half the course finished
If completed assignments contribute 41 course points and the remaining weight is 50%, you need 44 more points to reach 85. That means an 88% average across the remaining half of the course.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the final grade calculator?
The final grade calculator treats one exam as the only remaining item. This tool combines any number of completed assignments and treats all unfinished work as one remaining weight.
What if my target is already secured?
A required average at or below zero means the completed weighted points already meet the target. Course rules may still require you to submit remaining work.
Should bonus work be included?
Only include extra credit if your syllabus assigns it a clear weight within the same 100% grading structure. Otherwise ask your instructor how it changes the total.
