Formula
How the math works
required GPA = [target × (current + upcoming credits) − current GPA × current credits] ÷ upcoming credits
The formula balances the grade points you already earned with the grade points needed across your full credit total after the upcoming period.
Worked example
Moving a 3.20 GPA toward 3.30
With a 3.20 GPA across 60 credits and 15 upcoming credits, a 3.30 target requires a 3.70 GPA during those 15 credits. The existing 60 credits make up most of the cumulative result, so changes happen gradually.
Questions, answered
Frequently asked questions
Why is the required GPA above my scale?
That means the target cannot be reached within the upcoming credit window, even with the maximum GPA. More future credits or a lower near-term target may make it possible.
Should I use attempted or completed credits?
Use the credit total your institution includes in cumulative GPA calculations. Policies for repeats, withdrawals, and pass/fail courses differ, so check your transcript rules.
Can I use a custom scale?
Yes. Choose Custom and enter the maximum GPA used by your school. Current, target, and scenario values will be evaluated against that scale.
